The Adamello Brenta Nature Park is the largest protected area in Trentino and is located in the western Trentino. With its 620.51 sq km (nearly 240 sq mi), it includes the mountain ranges of the Adamello and the Brenta Group, which are separated by the Val Rendena valley and also form the valleys Non, Sole, and Giudicarie. The area features 48 lakes and the Adamello glacier, which is one of the largest in Europe.
UNESCO, as part of the Third International Conference on Geoparks held in June 2008 at the “TerraViva” Nature Park of Osnabrück, Germany, declared the entry of the Adamello Brenta Nature Park in the European and world network of geoparks. La European network of geoparks has 43 areas that, under the auspices of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), work together to preserve and develop this geological heritage.
By joining the European Geoparks Network, the Adamello-Brenta Nature Park is also automatically a part of the worldwide network of UNESCO geoparks.
One of the missions of the park is environmental education, intended particularly for children and students, which is why the teaching and training is intensive and pursued in collaboration with the local schools.
Particular attention is given to tourists and young guests of the Val Rendena area. Especially during the summer, the park organizes activities, workshops, excursions, games and walks, so that kids can have fun while they learn about the marvelous nature of the valley.
