Stories of Ice: From the Mandrone Glacier to the Arctic
With Giovanni Caprara, science journalist for Corriere della Sera, and Cristian Ferrari, president of SAT – Adamello Brenta Nature Park
An accessible excursion for all, offering a moment of reflection at the foot of the Mandrone Glacier, in the framework of the International Year of Glacier Preservation.
Science journalist Giovanni Caprara will share insights on the state of the Arctic, starting from the European ice core expedition Beyond Epica, led by Italy. Thanks to ice extracted from 2,800 meters below the surface, scientists are able to trace climate data and its evolution back as far as 1.2 million years. The cores arrived in Europe last April and are now undergoing analysis. A remarkable story of Italian and European scientific achievement.
This moment of reflection, framed by the dramatic cliffs surrounding the Mandrone Glacier, unfolds in dialogue with Cristian Ferrari, president of SAT, the Alpine society that, through its glaciological commission, has monitored the glacier’s changes for years.
The wide pastures of Malga Bedole welcome visitors into the final stretch of the Val Genova valley.
