Cascata d'Amola

Val Nambrone / Pinzolo

This majestic waterfall is one of the most stunning in Val Nambrone area for photography due to its position and the available vantage points. It is just a short walk from Rifugio Val Nambrone along a leisurely trail.

By car, along highway SS239 from Madonna di Campiglio down towards Pinzolo, at the crossroads at switchback no. 4 shortly after S. Antonio di Mavignola, take the right in the direction of Laghi di Cornisello, Rifugio Val Nambrone, and Rifugio G. Segantini.

After about 3 km (1.8 mi) of dirt road (warning: narrow), you will reach the ample parking area of Rifugio-Ristorante Val Nambrone. Park your car and head to the left edge of the parking area, near the forest, and continue on foot following the signs for Cascata d’Amola. Across the bridge over the Sarca river, head to the right along a leisurely trail. After about 200 meters, the roaring of the falls will be your guide for finding them in just a few minutes. At the falls, a bridge will enable you to view and photograph the falls more directly.

From late spring when the roads have been reopened to late autumn, roughly from mid-April to October. From April to May, just after the thaw, the falls are normally full of water and express their full potential more so than at any other time of year.

Depending on the season, the falls are most directly lit by around midday, from 11 AM to 3 PM, so we recommend avoiding this time of day in order to avoid overexposure. Its best to either take advantage of cloud cover or take your photos earlier or later in the day.

Be careful of the mist spraying out towards the various vantage points for photographing the falls. Protect yourself and your equipment by first deciding the shot you want to take and then positioning your camera. To avoid these issues, after the bridge in front of the falls, continue along to the left where you will find a number of natural vantage points from where you can photograph both the falls and the river. (Don’t fall in!)
