With an area of 1,000m2, it consists of an artillery casemate, 2 ground gun batteries, and a warehouse and barracks.
Fort Larino is one of the five original forts that formed the Lardaro Blockade, connected to each other through a series of walkways, trenches and tunnels. It is a 1st phase fort, that is to say one of the first to be built. Its construction dates back to between 1860 and 1861, immediately after the birth of the Kingdom of Italy, on a spur that descends from the Doss dei Morti. It was modernised in 1879. Its size is impressive — L-shaped and occupying about 900 m2, it is surrounded by a moat. The architect was Oskar Meiss von Taufen. Inside: guard rooms, kitchen, food storage, infirmary, dormitories and prison cells for up to 3 officers and 122 men.
