Irone

Irone title=

A pearl of the Middle Ages, where time has stood still. The small church, isolated from the village and perched on a panoramic high-altitude location, is also of Medieval origin - traces of Gothic frescoes have been found underneath the plaster.

Irone is a small medieval village perfectly preserved, abandoned for years: if you suffer the charm of the ghost villages, Irone, depopulated by the plague in 1630 - the one described by Manzoni in his Promessi Sposi – is one of these places that have literally taken away the soul of the time, keeping all its medieval characteristics intact over the centuries. The village, which fills up in the summer, preserves the alpine atmosphere of the past perfectly in the structure of its houses and retains the old well that served the entire small community. Today, events are organised in Irone to promote local traditions and popular culture. The village is also the subject of studies on the architectural recovery while respecting history.

STRENGTH Depopulated
by the plague in 1630, today it is a ghost village.
