The 8th International Conference on UNESCO Global Geoparks will take place in the Adamello Brenta UNESCO Global Geopark, Trentino Province, Italy, from 11th to 14th September 2018.
The Conference, with the main theme: “Geoparks and sustainable development”, will occur at Palacampiglio in Madonna di Campiglio town, in the heart of the Geopark.
The Conference will be preceded, from 8th to 10th September, by the Meetings of UUG Council, GGN ExB, and Regional Networks Meetings : EGN AC and CC, APGN AC and CC, LACGN AC and CC.
The Conference will begin on September 11th with the Opening Ceremony and key-note lectures.
On September 11th and 12th the conference sessions will run in five parallel rooms. Special workshops will be organized in collaboration with the relevant GGN Working groups. In parallel the GGN Advisory Committee Meeting and the GGN General Assembly will take place.
The third day of the Conference, 13th September, is dedicated to the mid-conference field trip. Participants will have the opportunity to choose among the six available options, in order to know and experience the geological, natural and cultural peculiarities of the Adamello Brenta UNESCO Global Geopark. At the end of the day the Conference gala dinner will take place accompanied by the New Members certificate and GGN Award ceremony. The fourth day of the Conference, 14th September, the conference sessions will run in five parallel rooms.
Special workshops will be organized in collaboration with the relevant GGN Working groups. A special session is dedicated to the presentation of the GGN Best Practice awards. The same day, the Conference closing ceremony will take place accompanied by the GGN Revalidation Certificates and the 9th International Conference on UNESCO Global Geoparks announcement.
A set of social and cultural events are planned during the Conference, with the opportunity to get in contact with the local people and their traditions and the Italian lifestyle as well.
In addition, there will be available the adequate space for the exhibitions at the Geo-fair, to showcase and promote the own territories and UNESCO Global Geopark, its services, activities and typical products to over eight hundred delegates from all over the world.
The Intangible Heritage Exhibition from the UNESCO Global Geoparks will be hosted at the Conference centre in collaboration with the GGN WG on Intangible Heritage.
A special programme for the accompanying persons of the delegates (partners, families and friends) is organised during the Conference, from 11th to 14th September, which includes excursions, activities and guided tours in order to live and discover the Adamello Brenta Nature Geopark in its entirety.
For those who would like to take the advantage of the journey to Italy and have the possibility to move up or extend their stay, Pre and Post Conference Tour, are organised together with the Italian Geoparks, where it will be possible to visit and admire the geological, natural and cultural heritage of Italy and its main cities.
