If you don’t know, the firn is “partially compacted snow, a type of snow that has been left and has been recrystallized into a substance denser than snow. It is ice that is at an intermediate stage between snow and glacial ice. Firn has the appearance of wet sugar, but has a hardness that makes it extremely resistant to shovelling”.
From crystal the firn was born and, in the right conditions, it offers extraordinary skiing to the ski mountaineers.
