The Adamello Brenta Geopark is organizing the "LibriAMOci: pagine di Parco" (Let's Read: Park Pages) event, which will be held at the "Natura e Cultura" reading center in Carisolo until next spring. These events include the presentation of publications dedicated to the Parks' naturalistic, historical, and cultural themes.
PROGRAMME:
5.30 PM "Vertical Migrations. Will the Mountains Save Us?" with a talk by author Andrea Membretti in conversation with Luigina Armani.
The mountains are increasingly seen as a life opportunity, a relatively accessible alternative, by those wishing to abandon the metropolises, suffocated by the effects of hyper-agglomeration of society and production. The "mountain dwellers by choice" movement has blazed a trail, followed by the pandemic crisis and the spread of smart working: today, the pressure placed by climate change on scorching, polluted cities is increasingly highlighting a widespread aspiration to move to the highlands, whether permanently or for extended periods of the year. Verticality thus enters into these forms of new human mobility, which we can trace back to the broader category of migration: who are, and who will be, the "vertical migrants" in the near future? With a transdisciplinary approach—from sociology to climatology, economic geography, and environmental sciences—and based on original scientific data, this collective volume attempts to profile the different categories of people driven to the mountains by a combination of factors, among which the effects of climate change on large cities are beginning to play a significant role, both in terms of imagination and concrete planning.
