Every year in Caderzone Terme, the Agriculture Festival celebrates the land, its people, and their deep-rooted mountain traditions, while looking toward a sustainable future.
A Celebration in Support of Trentino’s Heritage
The 26th edition of the Agriculture Festival has just come to a close, organized by the Pro Loco and the Municipality of Caderzone Terme.
It’s a time when the village dresses up to honor Trentino’s rural heritage — an economy where past, present, and future come together in a blend of tradition, craftsmanship, and local flavors. For three days, visitors enjoyed a heartfelt tribute to the old ways of farming: parades through the village with Rendena cows (the only native cattle breed of Trentino), markets, live music, and dinners featuring traditional local products.
The colorful parade through the streets, led by the Caderzone town band, featured cows, donkeys, horses, goats, rabbits, and sheep, along with carts and tractors decorated for the occasion.
The festival also revives the ancient art of haymaking, all done as it once was, and adds a playful twist with events like the “Rodolada della Spressa”, a rural-sport competition where participants chase a rolling wheel of Spressa cheese.
Organized by the Consorzio Giudicarie Spressa D.O.P., this quirky contest adds a touch of fun to a sector deeply rooted in tradition and highlights the importance of livestock farming in the Rendena valleys.
Each year, the festival is also a chance for local farmers to meet, exchange ideas, and tell the story of a mountain world that keeps its traditions alive. It celebrates an agricultural sector that remains vital to Trentino’s economy and essential to the protection of its landscape and environment.
These late-summer festivals and ancient rituals mark the return of the animals from the high mountain pastures and celebrate a rural culture that continues to shape the spirit of mountain life.
