Coexistence: The Wild Challenge of Sharing Places
Hike from Doss del Sabion to Lake Valagola with Valeria Barbi, naturalist, political scientist, environmental journalist and writer.

Valeria Barbi is an environmental journalist and writer specializing in biodiversity. She is trained as both a naturalist and a political scientist. She is the author of From Alaska to Patagonia: A Journey Through the World's Most Extraordinary Ecosystems (Laterza, 2025) and What Is Biodiversity Today? (Edizioni Ambiente, 2022).
Together with photographer and videomaker Davide Agati, she created WANE – We Are Nature Expedition, a multimedia reportage documenting the impacts of human activities on biodiversity and collecting stories of possible coexistence between humans and other species.
For GEO (Rai 3), she curates a segment dedicated to the importance of biodiversity and biomimicry. She is Head of Communications for Salviamo l’Orso and serves on the Commission on Education and Communication of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

PROGRAMME:

09:00 AM Meeting at the Pinzolo cable car station square.
Route description: A quick ascent by cable car will take us to the 2,097-metre summit of Doss del Sàbion, offering a spectacular 360° view over the entire Adamello Brenta Nature Park.
We will follow the “Breath of the Wind” Trail, a moderately difficult route with some exposed sections, to the locality of Madonnina. From there, we will descend to Lake Valagola, home to one of the few natural lakes in the Brenta Dolomites. We will return via the Senter del Martel trail, completing a circular route at Pra Rodont, where we will take the cable car back down to the valley.
Full-day activity – packed lunch to be provided by participants.
