Really intense stage, suitable for the most experienced, with some technical and fun sections, and a final "knee-breaking" descent. In return, stunning and very varied landscapes, from the rocky realms of the first part to the bucolic plateau that closes the Val Trivena at the end.
From the Carè Alto refuge (2,459 m) take trail 222 and, leaving the imposing mass of Carè Alto on the right, climb in about an hour to Bocca di Conca (2,674 m). After Bocca di Conca you enter the Valletta Dosson (or Val Cavento) and descend to Malga Dosson Casina (2,363 m): this area is also described by Lieutenant Felix Hecht in his memoirs. Near the hut there is a cozy bivouac and remains of the command post of the upper Valletta subsector. Continue descending along the San Valentino valley to Malga Valletta Bassa and the junction with trail 225 that rises again. You pass the Coston della Valletta Pass (2,350 m) and the Cunella bivouac (2,280 m); ascending the head of Val Stacciole you reach Bocca della Cunella (2,523 m). In this section the trail is quite rough and equipped with short iron ladders and fixed ropes. From Bocca della Cunella you descend into Val di Trivena keeping the Cop di Breguzzo and Cop di Casa peaks on the right and crossing the grassy clearing of Pian di Redont. Finally, you reach the Trivena refuge (1,650 m, tel. +39 0465 901019, www.trivena.com) which, in addition to offering board and lodging, hosts a collection of war memorabilia.
