A lovely walk exploring the villages of Vigo, Villa, Verdesina, Darè, and Javrè, municipalities of Porte di Rendena, passing through Val San Valentino and several points of interest.
Since January 1, 2016, the three municipalities of Darè, Vigo, and Villa Rendena merged to form the new municipality of Porte di Rendena. Rich in points of interest, these small mountain gems offer interesting examples of Rendena architecture and testify, through the numerous mountain huts dotted across the slopes of the Val di San Valentino, a history based on an ancient solid silvo-pastoral economy.
Darè was once the typical rustic Rendena village, with stone houses leaning against each other, covered with shingles, and elegant portals adorned with noble coats of arms. Destroyed by fires in the mid-20th century, it preserves traces of its past in the oldest part of the village.
Vigo Rendena is partly perched on the eastern slopes of Corno Basso and partly lies on the valley floor plain adjacent to a broad agricultural area. This center was also destroyed by a severe fire in 1929 and almost completely rebuilt.
Villa Rendena, at the southern entrance of the Val Rendena, also includes the hamlets of Verdesina and Javrè.
The municipality was not spared by the plague of the 1600s and, like all the villages in Giudicarie, was rebuilt after fierce fires that destroyed the wooden superstructures of the massive Rendena houses. The main square features some interesting religious frescoes.
