Take a picturesque, moderately challenging walk through the stunning scenery of waterfalls, impressive streams, cosy mountain huts and the legendary tales of devils and witches. Val Genova is a magical place full of energy.
Beautiful and wild, Val di Genova cuts through the frozen heart of the Adamello mountain range, preserving ancient tales and a hint of magic.
Located within the Adamello Brenta Nature Park, the valley is nestled between the peaks of the Presanella and Adamello mountain ranges. After winding its way through steep walls and dense woods for 17 kilometres, the valley finally opens out onto the majestic glacial amphitheatre of Matarot.
This valley was the setting for the first mountaineering expeditions and, later, the 'White War' battles of the First World War, which were fought amid the snow and ice of these mountains. Traces of these battles can still be seen today.
The defining feature of the valley is water, which flows impetuously between rocks and plunges into spectacular waterfalls such as Lares and Nardis.
It is said that witches were banished here during the Council of Trent. Just legends? Maybe. But some people swear that something inexplicable happened in Val Genova…
