Valle d’Ampola is to be travelled along an old, forgotten and recently rediscovered road. This simple, undemanding itinerary is full of unique views and offers an exciting challenge for families!
The route starts at the car park in the hamlet of La Pineta, just outside the village of Storo, where the deep Valle d'Ampola begins. After passing the iron bridge over the Palvico stream, it is worth making a short detour to admire the Büs da Mort Waterfall before climbing the ancient road. Once there, you will easily understand why. After stopping for as long as you like, head back a few hundred metres and take the path that climbs up the mountain slope. The dry stone walls supporting parts of the old road, the caves carved into the rock, the coolness of the forest and the depth of the Ampola Gorge… They all make this a unique excursion, far from crowded places and in a secluded, peaceful environment.
The arrival point, enveloped in the shade of the trees and accompanied by the sound of the stream, is a natural refuge offering a rejuvenating and unforgettable experience.
Continue your journey on La Via delle Valli, where you can choose to explore any of the 50 proposed valleys. Find out more at: www.campigliodolomiti.it/laviadellevalli.
You will find signs and stamps in the valleys from July 2025.
Those who are more energetic and adventurous can cross the Palvico stream during periods of low rainfall and take the state road Via d'Ampola (SS 240). After about twenty minutes, you will reach the entrance to Valle di Lorina. Great care should be taken along this busy stretch of road.
