STORIES OF ICE: FROM MANDRONE TO ARCTIC ICE. With Giovanni Caprara, science journalist for Corriere della Sera, Cristian Ferrari, president of SAT Parco Naturale Adamello Brenta
PROGRAMME:
8.30 a.m.: departure from Pinzolo.
An excursion within everyone's reach to stop in front of the Mandrone glacier in the International Year of Glacier Conservation.
Corriere della Sera science journalist Giovanni Caprara recounts the situation at the Arctic Pole starting with the European expedition, led by Italy, Beyond Epica, which, thanks to ice collected at a depth of 2800 metres, provides insight into the climate and its changes up to 1.2 million years ago.
The samples arrived in Europe last April and are now starting to be analysed. It is a magnificent story of Italian and European science. A reflection in front of the walls of the Mandrone glacier, in dialogue with Cristian Ferrari, president of Sat, the alpine society that has been monitoring the glacier's changes for years through the Glaciological Commission.
The wide pasture of Malga Bedole is an invitation to enter the last step of Val Genova.
