THE CHANT OF THE WINNERS, with Flavio Caroli, art historian.
PROGRAMME:
5.30 p.m.: at the Sala della Cultura.
St. Francis and the “Canticle of the Creatures” are the turning point that creates the dignity, perhaps the sublimity, of the last. The thinking of the vanquished is often more fertile than that of the victors. Cimabue, Lotto, Caravaggio are just a few examples. Another art history is possible, that of the victorious losers, whose ideas fuelled and oriented the future.
Starting from this assumption, through a rewriting of certain events in the history of art, Flavio Caroli investigates artists, centres, patrons who, apparently defeated with respect to the traditional line, are actually ‘victorious losers’, because their ideas and works have nourished and directed the evolution of the discipline.
Flavio Caroli, with his passionate storytelling, accompanies us to discover a submerged and little-known art.
An art that in spite of everything has continued to nourish creative thinking and influence the course of history and therefore deserves to be brought back to light.
