The function of warning against all kinds of war is performed with essential starkness by the Austro-Hungarian Monumental Cemetery of Bondo. It will be explored in the company of enthusiasts and experts from the Great War Museum in Valle del Chiese.
Commissioned starting in 1916 by the Austrian commander Theodor Spiegel, the Monumental Cemetery of Bondo houses 697 bodies of soldiers from what was the army of Franz Joseph. Built with the purpose of giving honorable burial to Austrian soldiers who fought and lost their lives in the Judicaria mountains, over the years it has become a monument to the fallen of all wars and a symbol of the silent and always current invitation to peace.
At the end of the walk, there will be an opportunity to taste polenta and many other typical local products during the Sagra dal Carman, organized by the Pro Loco of Bondo in Piazzale Chiesa Nuova starting at 6:30 p.m.
