Il forte di Praso: Fort Corno - Praso

The buildingFort Corno was built after Fort Larino: this is the reason why Fort Corno was built with a different conception and substantially more modern. The map is irregular and has two main fronts, one facing south and the other facing east, a west-facing flank and a north-facing ravine front.

The most westerly part was the higher one and it included a two storey building, covered with soil (solution which was adopted in several works) in order to dampen the power of artillery shells and supported by a wall; warehouses, dormitories and other service rooms were housed here.

the observation domeThe most eastern part was lower and included part of the fort’s armament, in which six 12cm cannons were housed. The entrance with embrasures was in the flank towards the mountain. The gorge front consisted of a wall with loopholes. It wa salso equipped with an observation dome. Fort Corno was connected to Fort Larino and the valley floor by an equipped path along the “Doss dei Morti” rock face.
