In Darzo, "La strada delle Minere" is a ring route between murals that recalls the mining past linked to the extraction and processing of barite, the"white gold" of the town.
From 1894 to 2009, mining deeply marked local life, accompanying the transition from a peasant community to an industrial reality. To preserve its memory, in 2005 the Pro Loco of Darzo started a project to redevelop the village, commissioning three large frescoes on as many buildings, designed as stages of a narrative itinerary.
The works tell the protagonists and the key moments of that world: the miners, their work in the tunnels and the link with the country, the daily life around the mine, the traditions and festivals (such as that of Santa Barbara), all inspired by the photographs preserved by the families. A simple walk, combining art, recent history and local identity.
