A day dedicated to soft mobility, quality of experience, and landscape protection
Every Tuesday in July and August, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., the Vallesinella road is closed to motorized traffic to make space for “soft mobility”, people-centered ways of moving, allowing visitors to explore the area on foot and by bicycle.
Only by moving slowly is it possible to fully and deeply experience the landscape.
Slow Mobility Day was created with a clear goal: to experiment with a more sustainable way of enjoying Vallesinella, prioritizing access on foot and by bicycle and temporarily reducing motorized traffic.
A concrete initiative to:
- reduce traffic and emissions
- improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists
- restore centrality to the landscape, silence, and the valley’s natural dimension
- test management models that can be replicated during peak periods
A moment of experimentation that is part of a broader process of sustainable mobility development in Vallesinella, with the aim of ensuring a long-term balance between accessibility and environmental protection.
What visitors told us
During summer 2025, 161 questionnaires were collected to assess perceptions of the initiative.
The results show that:
- Nearly 90% of participants arrived on foot, confirming strong adherence to the spirit of the day.
- 31% were already aware of the initiative and, among them, more than one third chose to come specifically for the Slow Mobility Day.
- Among those who were not informed in advance, over 63% did not perceive any inconvenience related to traffic restrictions.
- 65% would gladly participate more often in soft mobility days, while an additional 20% said they would consider it.
Open responses highlighted widespread appreciation for the silence, safety, and the opportunity to walk along the road without traffic — elements perceived as significantly enhancing the quality of the experience.
A sustainability laboratory
Slow Mobility Day was not just a symbolic event, but a true experimental laboratory.
In a fragile area of extraordinary environmental value such as Vallesinella, testing innovative mobility solutions is part of a broader path aimed at:
- reducing environmental impact
- improving the quality of the experience
- finding a balance between accessibility and protection
Each experiment helps build a shared vision for the future of the valley.
