Beautiful route that leads from the undergrowth of the Val Genova up to the altitude with an incredible view of the amphitheater of the Lobbie and the Matarot.
From the Malga Bedole parking lot, taking the dirt road, you reach the Rifugio Adamello Collini Al Bedole and then the Rifugio Mandron “City of Trento”, located in front of the largest glacier in the Italian Alps, the Adamello.
The first part of the route is steep and quickly overcomes 600 meters of elevation difference between the start and arrival; after exiting the woods, the path becomes flatter before finishing with a last uphill stretch. Near the refuge, there is a small Austro-Hungarian cemetery and many signs of the First World War (trenches, walkways, etc.).
The ascent is steady and quite steep at the beginning: the first part of the route is immersed in thick forest, then, at about 2100 m, you exit the vegetation to continue facing the Lobbia glacier and breathtaking panoramas.
We recommend some stops not to miss a short distance from the refuge: the Julius Payer Glaciological Center, a permanent exhibition on glaciers and the mountain environment; the homonymous ponds and the small church built with local granite.
During the White War, the Mandron area was a theater of military clashes, and the surroundings of the refuge are particularly interesting because they are still rich in testimonies of the Great War: walkways, lookout posts, trenches, and the small military cemetery.
