A circular route with a medium difference in altitude that crosses the pastures of the Arnò and Maggiasone alpine huts, through meadows, woods and waterfalls to reach the pass dominated by the peak of Passo del Frate.
The route starts at the green pastures of Malga d'Arnò and leads to Malga Maggiasone through wide meadows with woods in between. During the summer months, you may spot some cows and other typical mountain wildlife. From Malga Maggiasone, follow the slightly uphill path along a section of the Path of Peace (Sentiero della Pace) that leads to the rocky slabs below the peak of Passo del Frate. The last part is a steep slope, equipped with stirrups set into the rock, which take you to Passo del Frate, from where you can enjoy a great view of Valle di Daone and Monte Corona. To get back, follow the same route to Malga Maggiasone and then take the path that leads to the Cravatta waterfall and then back to Malga d'Arnò.
Continue your journey on La Via delle Valli, where you can choose to explore any of the 50 proposed valleys. Find out more at: www.campigliodolomiti.it/laviadellevalli.
You will find signs and stamps in the valleys from July 2025.
From Passo del Frate you can head to other valleys, like Val Bona below (path SAT 262 and then 249), or the parallel Val di Bondone (continue along the Path of Peace towards Monte Corona), paying attention to a section on grassland equipped with a steel cable to prevent hikers from slipping in this rather steep spot, although the path is always well marked; you should also pay attention to the sections below the summit of Monte Corona, which are narrow and quite technical.
