The climb up Val di Borzago to the Dante Ongari mountain hut at Carè Alto is quite demanding and characterized by particular alpine and scenic beauty.
After crossing the narrow Val di Borzago by car, starting from Spiazzo, you can park at Pian della Sega, where the path begins and climbs steadily to Rifugio Carè Alto - Dante Ongari. There are many traces of the First World War in the area, including “Bocca del Cannone” (Cannon’s Mouth) and the small wooden church next to the mountain hut.
It is an excellent starting point for crossings, excursions to wild peaks and valleys and a lot of climbing.
The effort of reaching over 1,200 metres in altitude is fully rewarded by the wild beauty of the varied and majestic landscape and the great panoramic position. During the First World War, the area where the mountain hut is located and the surrounding area were occupied by a real "military village", supplied by a dense network of cableway lines, and the whole area is rich in war testimonies. Among these, the so-called "Bocca del Cannone” (Cannon’s Mouth), at about 2850 metres, is worth a visit and can be reached by a well-marked path.
