The climb in Val di Borzago to the Dante Ongari Refuge at Carè Alto is challenging, characterized by great mountaineering and scenic appeal.
After driving through the narrow Val di Borzago, which starts from Spiazzo, you park at Pian della Sega, from where the path begins that, in constant ascent, leads to the Carè Alto - Dante Ongari Refuge. There are many traces of the "Great War" to be found throughout the area, including the "Bocca del Cannone" and the small wooden church next to the refuge.
This is an excellent starting point for traverses, mountain and wild valley excursions, crossings and climbs.
The effort of over 1200 meters of elevation gain is fully rewarded by the wild beauty of a varied and majestic environment and by the highly panoramic location. The area where the refuge is located and the surrounding area was occupied during the Great War by a real "military village", supplied by a dense network of cable lines, and the whole area is rich in war relics. Among them, a visit to the "bocca del Cannone", at about 2,850 meters, reachable via a well-marked path, is worthwhile.

From Val di Borzago you can connect with:
- Val Siniciaga. Two possibilities:
A. ascending directly from Pian della Sega along the Sentiero della Pace (trail marker 215 b) to Passo Altar and then descending into Val Siniciaga reaching Val Genova.
B. going to Carè Alto Refuge (trail marker 213), from here continue towards Val di Lares (trail marker 214). Before reaching Lago dei Pozzoni turn right towards Passo degli Altar. From here descend along Val Siniciaga into Val Genova. - Val Germenega. From the start of Val di Borzago take the dirt road towards Sostino, Solarol and Malga Stablel (trail marker 244). From the hut follow trail 244 towards Passo del Forcellin which leads to Val Germenega and then descend along Val Siniciaga into Val Genova.
- Valle di San Valentino. From Carè Alto Refuge follow Sentiero della Pace 222 towards Bocca di Conca. From here descend through Valle Dosson (trail marker 224) into Valletta Bassa up to Valle di San Valentino.
- Val di Lares. Go to Carè Alto Refuge (trail marker 213) and from here continue into Val di Lares along trail 214 passing Lago dei Pozzoni and Lago della Busa del Morto to reach Lago di Lares. From here descend along Val di Lares into Val Genova.
- Val di Fumo. From Carè Alto Refuge follow Sentiero della Pace (trail marker 222) up to Rifugio Val di Fumo.
