This challenging and rewarding trek is characterized by constant verticality, the roar of waterfalls and torrents, and awe-inspiring scenery. The trek culminates in an arrival at a glacial alpine lake.
You can reach Val di Lares from Val Genova.
The excursion starts at Malga Genova, where you take path SAT 214 in front of the Park Information Centre, just before the village of Ponte Rosso.
The route climbs steeply alongside the Lares waterfalls, where violent bursts of water break with great force on the rocks below, creating beautiful rainbows.
These waterfalls are fed by Lake Lares, which was formed recently when the Vedretta di Lares glacier retreated. The glacier descends the valley alongside the Rio Lares stream.
The valley owes its name to the abundance of larches ("laras" in the local dialect), which in autumn turn a golden colour of indescribable beauty in autumn.
The path is impassable, especially in the first section, which climbs a few hundred metres before proceeding on a steep slope to Malga di Lares. Here, a long flat section begins. After the plateau, the path ascends again, offering magnificent views of the Adamello glacier, to Lake Lares, located below Carè Alto.
Continue your journey on La Via delle Valli, where you can choose to explore any of the 50 proposed valleys. Find out more at: www.campigliodolomiti.it/laviadellevalli.
You will find signs and stamps in the valleys from July 2025.
