Exploring Val Folgorida in Val Genova requires good physical preparation. This vertical and panoramic route offers stunning views of the Brenta Dolomites, the Crozzon di Lares peak and the Lobbie glacier.
You can access Val Folgorida via the waterfall path near Ragàda in Val Genova.
A curiosity: Ragàda is an ancient uninhabited village located at the foot of Val Folgorida and 12 km from Carisolo in Val Rendena. In the 19th century, the last “indigenous” inhabitant of Val Genova lived here: the famous Luigi Fantoma, also known as the “King of Val Genova”. Upstream from the village is the beautiful Folgorida waterfall.
The path to the valley starts at a junction on the popular Val Genova Waterfall Trail. The lower part of the route ascends through a fir forest and passes Malga Cioc and Malga Folgorida, which are both closed. The path continues to climb steeply, crossing grassy ridges before emerging from the vegetation. It then continues over boulders and along a beautiful wartime walkway. Signs of this walkway can still be seen in the dry stone walls and relics at Passo delle Topette.
At an altitude of over 2,600 metres, near the imposing peak of the Crozzon di Lares, the mountains embracing the valley are home to all that remains of the Folgorida glacier.
Continue your journey on La Via delle Valli, where you can choose to explore any of the 50 proposed valleys. Find out more at: www.campigliodolomiti.it/laviadellevalli.
You will find signs and stamps in the valleys from July 2025.
There are many traces of the First World War in the area around Passo delle Topette, including tools, dry stone walls and an impressive walkway.
The valley boasts stunning views of the Brenta Dolomites, the Crozzon di Lares peak and the Lobbie glacier.
