This is a moderately difficult, panoramic hike in Val Nambrone, from Rifugio Cornisello to Lake Vedretta. The last, more vertical and demanding section offers a perfect view of the Dolomites.
You can drive as far as Rifugio Cornisello in Val Nambrone along a rather narrow and exposed mountain road. As you drive up, the view gradually opens up to reveal the Brenta Dolomites, the Presanella peaks, Doss del Sabion and Val Rendena.
The area is rich in lakes, which were part of a major hydroelectric project in the 1960s. You can still see traces of this project today.
The first lakes encountered are the Cornisello Lakes, located in a beautiful basin ideal for walks and picnics. These lakes are situated at an altitude of 2083 m and 2112 m and can be reached by car.
From here, many paths lead to the surrounding mountain huts, peaks and other lakes. One of these is the milky-blue Lake Vedretta, which is located at an altitude of 2,612 metres and can be reached on foot from the Cornisello Lakes. At the end of the 19th century, the Cornisello glacier front lapped the lake, which is still surrounded by tonalite rocks bearing clear signs of glacial modelling. It is a fabulous place with an incredible panoramic view.
