This is a medium-difficulty trek offering stunning views of the Brenta Dolomites and the Presanella mountain range. It leads from Sant’Antonio di Mavignola to Malga Valchestria via Clemp and its distinctive farms.
There are several routes to Malga Valchestria, which can be accessed from either Sant'Antonio di Mavignola or Madonna di Campiglio.
Here we suggest a rarely used route that climbs steeply through the forest, passing the last houses of the hamlet of Sant'Antonio di Mavignola and the panoramic terrace with Clemp’s farms. The trail continues uphill to the alpine hut.
The village is easily accessible by car and public transport, and the starting point of the itinerary can be reached on foot.
The route is clearly signposted and the path is always visible. Unlike the Way of the Cross hike, this one is gentler and only passes on the edge of Clemp, with its farms and fortifications. We recommend visiting these by taking a small detour.
Built between 1914 and 1915, the Clemp fortified barracks were about forty metres long and formed part of a larger defence system consisting of further trenches, barracks, rifle pits and caves. Only a few signs of these remain today.
Continue your journey on La Via delle Valli, where you can choose to explore any of the 50 proposed valleys. Find out more at: www.campigliodolomiti.it/laviadellevalli.
You will find signs and stamps in the valleys from July 2025.
THE NEIGHBOURING VALLEYS:
From Valchestria, you can reach Val di Canton by following path 278B from Malga Valchestria to Pian dei Mughi. From there, you can either descend to Malga Ritorto by taking path 277 downhill, or climb to the left to reach Lake Ritorto, still following path 277. From Lake Ritorto, you can either walk or take the cable car (check opening times and dates) down to Madonna di Campiglio. Alternatively, you can reach Malga Milegna from Malga Ritorto, and then Clemp, to reconnect with the uphill path to Valchestria. This creates a loop that will take you back to the entrance to Valchestria.
