Fort Corno

Fort Corno title=

Built between 1890 and 1892, the fort looms over Praso from a spur of rock at an altitude of 1,068 metres. It is well preserved and connected to the fortress on the valley floor by a scenic wartime track.

Of the five forts that once made up the “Sbarramento di Lardaro” (Lardaro blockade), three remain: Forte Larino to the south of Lardaro, Forte Corno in the municipality of Praso, and Forte Carriola in the Pieve di Bono area. Originally connected to each other through a network of walkways, trenches and tunnels, they made a formidable defensive system that dominated and controlled Valle del Chiese from above. Fort Corno has an exceptionally impressive structure in terms of military architecture. It contains 54 rooms - many of which have been exceptionally well-preserved - designed to house up to 160 soldiers. You can drive or walk there via the path from Fort Larino (the walk takes around 2 hours). It can only be visited by guided tours without a reservation (visits start at 10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.).

HIGHLIGHT
A striking, expertly restored treasure from the Great War in the Valle del Chiese.
