History, tastings and plenty of music!
CASTEL CONDINOSituated in the picturesque Chiese Valley, Castel Condino is a small village that retains the charm of tradition and mountain life. CHAPEL OF THE DEADThe Chapel of the Dead, known as "Césa dei mòrc", was built in 1836 as a votive offering to the Virgin Mary following the plague of 1630, which also struck Castel Condino. Tradition recalls the forty inhabitants who returned from Venice and died during the quarantine. According to legend, a rose that bloomed on their graves marked the spot where the chapel was to be built; today it is decorated with frescoes recounting its history and can be reached by a short walk from the village.
NAVALECC TRENCHESThe trenches at Navalecc are a valuable testament to the Italian defensive system of the First World War. Constructed from reinforced concrete and nestled in the woods, they still retain walkways, embrasures and defensive positions. Thanks to restoration work, the site is now open to visitors and can be easily reached by a short walk from Castel Condino.
OBSERVATORYThe Observatory in Pozze, just a few minutes from the centre of Castel Condino, was an important observation post in the northern part of the Chiese Valley during the First World War. Today, it still retains its distinctive stone and concrete structure, a cave hewn out of the rock, and evidence of the military units that were stationed there.
