Major Malina Trail - Val Genova - Itineraries of the Great War

Major Malina Trail - Val Genova - Itineraries of the Great War

Short but evocative loop walk that covers part of the defensive preparations of the Fontanabona barrage. The cultural-historical trail is dedicated to Major Anton Malina, a figure of great importance in the context of the events of the White War having been the longest-serving Austro-Hungarian officer in command of the Fontanabona Subsector

The simple path near Fontanabona offers a chance to see the traces of the Great War up close: remains of trenches, observatories, caves dug into the rock, terracing that served as the base of barracks, and shelters for soldiers.

From Carisolo, follow the Val Genova road to the Ponte delle Trincee bridge, located just beyond the end of the "Scala di Bo" climb; cross the stream and walk a loop on its orographic right and then return to the starting point and walk another loop on the opposite bank of the river.

Suggested route for history buffs and war relics.

Pay attention to summer mobility schedules for access into Genoa Valley.
