An interesting family-friendly route that takes almost 3 hours to complete, leading to the discovery of historical and natural sights, in the lower Daone Valley.
The Nature and History Trail begins in the Pracul plain, crosses the ancient stone bridge of Manoncin - where you can admire the peculiar Marmitte dei Giganti (giant’s kettles), and continues along the road to Manon, steep and cemented at first, and then paved and milder. In this oasis of peace and greenery, you can visit World War I trenches and battle stations, with breathtaking views over the valley below. Then, the route winds down along the Lert-Malga Nova forest, crossing meadows, hayfields and a hazel forest leading to the 'Grotta dei Ciclopi', shrouded in legends about giants. Here, you will also find the Boulder Park, a paradise for climbing enthusiasts, on erratic boulders surrounded by beech and hazel forests, amidst soft light and tranquillity. The loop route ends at the Gincànave clearing, an open-air geological museum, where you can rest after the walk.
When walking along the paved forest stretch, don't miss the 'Sorèi', cool and dry natural ravines, with a constant temperature all year round, once used to store milk and cheese - true natural refrigerators!Relax in the Gincànave clearing, with benches, tables, barbecue stations and drinking fountains, and visit the open-air geological museum that tells the story of the Daone Valley through its rocks.
