The perfect route if you are looking for an introspective trekking experience, not devoted to wide panoramic views, but rather to listening to the sounds, scents and colours of the forest.
The route mainly takes place within a pine, fir and beech forest, with some clearings offering views over the wild side of Val di Ledro. The starting point is in Rango, characterised by meadows and a few well-kept cottages, where you will find Palazzo di Rango, a building decorated during World War I and used as a command post for Italian officers to garrison and control the Austrian lines. After paying a visit to the historical building, the route continues along trails (SAT 450, 458 and 467) that wind their way up and down and lead, through gentle slopes - except for the last section towards the summit - and in the shade of trees to the summit of Monte Stigolo (1696 m).
There are no bivouacs, you must go back to the valley to find a place to spend the night. In Rango, park your car or bike and visit 'Palazzo di Rango', built in 1916 by soldiers of the 1st Battalion of the 66th Infantry Regiment. The walls are decorated with emblems of the Royal Army, coats of arms of the Savoy family and inscriptions of commanders, including Major Li Gobbi.
