San Valentino Valley - The Way of the Valleys

San Valentino Valley - The Way of the Valleys title=

Simple walk in the San Valentino Valley through a charming rural landscape of meadows, huts, haylofts, paved paths and mountain pastures carved within the dense forest.

The walk in San Valentino Valley is easy and family-friendly, ideal for spending time immersed in nature. Along the route it is possible to stop at the Gorck Refuge to relax and admire the view.

The valley is named after the chapel dedicated to San Valentino, built in the 14th century to protect the herds ascending to the mountain pastures. It is located in a panoramic spot that offers wide views of the Busa di Tione, the lower Rendena, the Brenta Group and the peaks of Carè Alto to the west. Only the apse and the frescoes by Simone Baschenis remain from the original building.
Once, the valley was a key crossroads for contacts with the Camunian populations. Historical documents attest to passage through the San Valentino (2765 m), Mezzo (2805 m) and Vacche (2854 m) passes, with the San Valentino Pass as the oldest connection between the Rendena Valley and Val di Fumo.
In the Middle Ages, pyrite mining caused instability, causing landslides. Today, however, the right side of the valley is a genuine natural jewel.

THE NEAREST VALLEYS:

From the San Valentino Valley it is possible to connect to:

  • the Val di Borzago, following trail 224 and passing through the Valletta Alta, Bocca di Conca and the Carè Alto Refuge. From here you descend into Val di Borzago.
  • the Valletta Alta, following trail 224 and then 248. From the Lago della Valletta Alta you can also continue to the San Valentino Pass and then descend into Val di Fumo and to the homonymous refuge.
  • the Val di Breguzzo, following trail 224 to the junction with the Peace Trail (sign 22) leading to the Cunella Bivouac. From here you can do a loop, passing by Malga Mandrone and Malga Geredol, to return to the San Valentino Valley, or follow trail 261 to Redont and the Val di Trivena, which is taken to reach Val di Breguzzo.
For the tireless: if from Redont you continue along trail 223 A (thus avoiding Val di Trivena), you will also cross the Val del Vescovo, up to the Danerba Gates. From here you can descend into Val di Daone along Valle Danerba, into Val di Fumo or even aim for Valbona.
