A pleasant hike in a secluded valley carved out of sedimentary rock, reminiscent of the Dolomites, and different from the surrounding valleys with the typical features of the Adamello mountains.
A pleasant itinerary that goes up Val di Bondone to reach the top of Dosso dei Morti, a panoramic point overlooking Valle del Chiese.
The itinerary starts from the village of Bondone di Sopra, where you can see the last huts of the valley, once used as barns to store the fodder needed to feed the animals during the winter months. The route begins to climb, crossing the pastures of Spazade and Fraìn, surrounded by fir and larch woods, and continues along the side of the fascinating spire of Cingol dal Sal until it reaches Malga Stabol Fess. Take a short break to enjoy this natural amphitheatre dotted with rhododendrons, which turn red during the short flowering period between the end of June and the beginning of July, and then... off you go again! For a final effort that leads to the crest where Sentiero della Pace (Path of Peace) is intercepted. From here the path becomes an easy up and down to Dosso dei Morti, the highest point of the route, with an all-round panoramic view over the surrounding landscape. A second short break at Dosso dei Morti (“Hump of the Dead”, a sad toponym given to this hill during the First World War), to refresh yourself and prepare for the long descent that leads to Malga Avalìna, where you can buy genuine and natural dairy products during the mountain pasture season. From the alpine hut, you can reach the starting point by proceeding on an old comfortable road with a gentle slope, built by the Austro-Hungarian army at the beginning of the 20th century.
Continue your journey on La Via delle Valli, where you can choose to explore any of the 50 proposed valleys. Find out more at: www.campigliodolomiti.it/laviadellevalli.
You will find signs and stamps in the valleys from July 2025.
If you want to reach other valleys from Dosso dei Morti, you have to go back along the ridge and reach Monte Corona, following Sentiero della Pace. From the top of Monte Corona, continue towards Passo del Frate, paying attention to the first section on rock, which is narrow and quite technical, and to a section on grass equipped with a steel rope to prevent the hiker from slipping in this rather steep place, although the path is always well marked. Once you have reached Passo del Frate, you can continue either towards Valle d'Arnò (path SAT 262b) or towards Val Bona (path SAT 249).
