Exploring Val Folgorida, in Val Genova, requires good physical fitness. Vertical and panoramic, it offers an excellent view of the Brenta Group, Crozzon di Lares, and the Lobbie glacier.
Val Folgorida is accessed from the waterfall path near the locality Ragàda, in Val Genova.
A curiosity: Ragàda, at the base of Val Folgorida, is an ancient abandoned village 12 km from Carisolo, in Val Rendena. In the 1800s, the last “native” of Val Genova, the famous Luigi Fantoma “King of Val Genova”, lived here. Above the village is the beautiful Folgorida waterfall.
The path to the valley starts from a fork along the well-known waterfall path of Val Genova. The lower part of the itinerary climbs through the fir forest passing Malga Cioc and Malga Folgorida, both closed. Always with a steady climb, it crosses grassy ridges then exits the vegetation and continues on rocks and a beautiful war walkway where signs of dry stone walls and artifacts can still be seen near Passo delle Topette.
At high altitude, above 2600 m, towards the imposing Crozzon di Lares, the peaks surrounding the valley host what remains of the Folgorida glacier.
