A small but very famous church, thanks to the "Danza Macabra", a wonderful fresco that you can admire on the external wall of the building, created by the painter Simone Baschenis.
Pinzolo, just outside the village, is home to one of the best-known and most visited churches in Trentino. The main motif is linked to the wonderful fresco that decorates the exterior and represents a "Macabre Dance", a theme not very common in late medieval religious representations, which served to remind the faithful that everyone, humble and powerful, is equal in the face of death. The work was created in the 16th century by Simone II Baschenis, a painter who lived between 1490 and 1555. It is considered the largest of the Baschenis, a family of painters who frescoed many churches in Trentino between the mid-1400s and 1500s. The Church of San Vigilio dates back to the Carolingian period and was enlarged in 1362, and later in 1515, it has a rectangular plan with 3 naves, with arches and pointed vaults supported by granite columns.
