A day of war at Forte Larino
Step inside a World War I fort and let yourself be guided by sounds and scents on an immersive journey that recalls the daily life, fears, and hopes of those who lived through the conflict.
You won’t find display cases or objects on exhibit, but atmospheres to experience, sensations to listen to, and memories to rediscover.
The experience unfolds across four rooms: the cold, metallic smell of the fort; the sounds of daily life while awaiting the conflict; the sudden noise of war; and finally, a lighter atmosphere evoking a sense of hope.
The projectThis multisensory experience is part of a project developed by Natourism srl and Dream srl, aimed at offering new ways to experience museums through inclusive and accessible pathways for all. The combined use of sight, hearing, and smell makes the visit more engaging and accessible even to those who usually face barriers in accessing culture. Through these senses, the goal is to reconstruct and enhance the historical and sensory atmosphere that characterized the fort during the war period.
AccessibilityThe experience at the fort provides the essential conditions to allow anyone to access and enjoy it independently.
Activity carried out as part of the iNEST Project - Interconnected Nord-Est Innovation Ecosystem, project code ECS 00000043 - CUP H43C22000540006, National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR).
Fort Larino - Lardaro
a first-stage fortFort Larino is a first-stage fort, this means it was one of the first forts to be built.
Its construction dates back to the period between 1860 and 1861 and secondly, in 1879, some modernizations have been made. This building’s designer was Oskar Meiss von Taufen.
Fort Larino possessed 9 15cm M.61 cannons, 7 9cm M75 cannons, 6 shielded rifles with shafts and 4 30cm reflectors powered by acetylene.
The complexThe complex has an area of thousand square metres and consists of a casemate battery, two earth batteries and a building for storage and barracks. On the southerner and on the eastern side, is the gunner’s hole and on the rest of the perimeter, are the gun slits.
Even though it is located at tweny kilometres from the border with the Kingdom of Italy, the three forts enjoyed a dominant position. It was the leading one of a trio of fortifications, erected between 1860 and 1862 to defend the Chiese-Valley by a possible Italian attack. In this first phase the Lardaro barrage was composed by Fort Larino, Reveglér and Danzolino.
