This itinerary touches upon the most panoramic spots of the Tione di Trento area, namely Malga Cengledino, that looks out onto the Brenta Group, on the Busa di Tione and Monte Cengledino. Thanks to its central position, Monte Cengledino allows visitors a wide angle view from Val Rendena in the north to Bleggio – Lomaso in the east and to the upper Valle del Chiese in the south.
The only unsightly view is that caused by the signal repeaters located close to the crucifix at the summit. With a bit of maneuvering you can still take nice pictures of the crucifix, however.
Starting from the parking lot in Zeller, the route follows the uphill road toward Malga Cengledino, overlooking the Brenta group. The trail crosses a dense coniferous forest, partly avoiding the paved road, and reaches the meadows below the Malga. Skirting the meadow, it reaches the Malga and then a clearing, which in the summer can be used as a parking lot for easier access. From here, it continues to Piana di San Martino, a verdant basin with blooming rhododendrons in spring. The uphill trail, with a few zig-zagging stretches, leads to Cima Cengledino, where you can enjoy a panoramic view of the Mountains, the Valle del Chiese, the surrounding villages and the peaks of the Adamello mountain range that dominate the Val di Breguzzo.
Remember to bring a camera or your smartphone, to capture the picture-perfect views. In summer, when the Malga is open, you can shorten the route by parking above Malga Cengledino, even without a town permit. In the other periods of the year, it is forbidden to drive on the asphalted stretch from Zeller to the Malga.
